This district is surrounded by a range of neighbourhoods, including several wealthy residential communities.
Much of the city has been thoroughly renovated and restored, with many of Porto's oldest buildings standing proudly alongside more modern structures and around spacious public squares. Of particular interest, the Ribeira area has gained UNESCO's prestigious title of World Heritage Site. Other highlights in the city include an eye-catching Baroque tower (the Torre dos Clérigos), Porto's cathedral, and the impressive Museu de Arte Contemporanea de Serralves art gallery.
